Waris Punjab De burns effigy of Congress’s Sukhjinder Randhawa over statement on Amritpal Singh in Amritsar

Waris Punjab De recently staged a protest against a statement made by Congress’ Gurdaspur Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Randhawa on MP Amritpal Singh. During the protest, leaders and activists of the outfit gathered in large numbers, raising slogans against Randhawa and the Congress, and burning his effigy at District Courts Chowk in Amritsar, expressing their anger.

Leaders said the party had always engaged in politics that “disturbs peace and communal harmony in Punjab”.

“From the 1984 Delhi massacre to the fake encounters in Punjab, Congress has a history filled with oppression. Now, once again, attempts are being made to defame Sikh youth through false allegations,” said Amandeep Singh Daddoana, the Amritsar (urban) president of the outfit.

The uproar follows comments made by Randhawa after a supporter of the MP’s outfit was reportedly named in connection with the explosion on the Rajpura-Shambhu railway track.

Party leaders said Amritpal was currently detained under strict surveillance in Dibrugarh jail, and linking him to any incident under such circumstances was nothing but fabrication of false narratives.

They challenged Randhawa to present evidence, if any existed. Leaders said Waris Punjab De firmly stood for Punjab’s unity, Hindu-Sikh harmony, and brotherhood. They accused the Congress of trying to create fear among people through “irresponsible statements”. “Today’s protest is not just a demonstration, but a symbol of rising public voice against falsehood and oppression,” said Jaskaran Singh Riar, the Amritsar (rural) president of the outfit
