Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan held a conference in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Patiala, on the issue of the Shamlat land of Bathoi Kalan. During this, the leaders accused the district administration and the Punjab government of breaking the communal unity and creating division among the farmers and laborers. Addressing the conference, BKU (Ugrahan) state president Joginder Singh Ugrahan opposed the policies adopted by the central and state governments. He said that when the government is not capable of solving the problems of the people, it breaks the communal bond of the people and serves the interests of the corporates. Baldev Singh Bathoi Kalan referred to the legal documents that fix the ownership rights of the land and settlers. State leader Jhanda Singh Jethuke alleged that the government wants to confuse the farmers, laborers and other working people in the villages through caste, religion and other divisive policies and hand over the lands to big corporates at exorbitant prices. He said that the government is trying to grab the lands of 700 villages across Punjab at the first opportunity. Women leader Harinder Bindu and leader from Patiala district Mandeep Kaur Baran presented the role being played by women to save these lands before the people. During the conference, it was demanded that legal action be taken against DDPO Patiala and BDPO Patiala-1 for disturbing the harmony of the people. A memorandum was submitted to the ADC in this regard.
