Punjab farmers clash with police ahead of AAP’s anti-drug rally in Moga

Clash occurs amid busy political season in Moga, with BJP and Akalis also planning major shows of strength in the district ahead of the upcoming assembly elections

Tensions flared at several locations on roads leading to Killi Chahal village of Moga, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is organising a state-level rally on Monday. Many groups of farmers heading to protest against the rally from various routes were intercepted by the police.

A convoy of farmers, led by Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) leaders Satnam Singh Pannu and Balwant Singh Brahmke was halted on the Moga-Jalandhar road by the police.

The farmers were travelling towards Killi Chahal, the designated venue for AAP’s anti-drug rally.

As the farmers’ convoy reached Kishangarh village, police used vehicles to block the road, preventing the protesters from proceeding.

Similar scenes emerged on the Moga-Ludhiana road, leading to a heated argument between the police and the farmers. Both clashed as farmers allegedly attempted to manually push the police vehicle off the road to clear the path.

The AAP rally in Killi Chahal is a major state-level event focused on the government’s campaign against narcotics. It is scheduled to be addressed by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM.

Farmer leader Avtar Singh Dharam Singh Wala stated that despite heavy barricading and efforts to stop them, the KMM remains determined to reach the venue to register their protest.

The clash has occurred amidst a busy political season in Moga, with the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal also planning major shows of strength in the district ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly Elections
