The biggest historical event of the state, the three-day annual Shaheedi Sabha, began here today with religious ceremonies.
To mark the beginning of the event, Akhand Path was started at Jyoti Swarup Sahib Gurdwara where the sahibzadas were cremated.
Dr Sona Thind, Deputy Commissioner, Pooja Grewal Sayal (ADC) and a large number of devotees were present on the occasion.
On the first day of the event, lakhs of devotees thronged gurdwaras and long queues were witnessed at Fatehgarh Sahib gurdwara and Jyoti Swarup Sahib Gurdwara.
Chief Minister of Haryana Naib Singh Saini, along with the state BJP leadership, leaders from major parties and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav paid their reverence to the Sahibzadas.
Punjab Congress leadership, led by PPCC president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, accompanied by Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa MP, Dr Amar Singh MP, former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, DCC Khanna president Lakhvir Singh Lakha Payal and others paid obeisance at Fatehgarh Sahib gurdwara.
The Punjab Congress president said the martyrdom of the younger sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh was unparalleled in world history. He said despite facing so many tortures, they practised their religion with courage and set a great example.
District Fatehgarh Sahib president Surinder Singh and Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Organisation chairman Jaspreet Singh, block president Sirhind Gurmukh Singh Pandrali, block president Khamano Sarabjit Singh Jeeti and other Congress leaders were also present on the occasion.
More than 500 community kitchens, serving makki ki roti, saron ka saag, butter, sandwhiches various types of juices and drinks etc, have started on the occasion SAD (B) and Youth Akali Dal workers organised free turban-tying camp.
