Congress MLA from Barnala, Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon, who is also the president of the party’s district unit, along with some of his associates, on Wednesday observed a hunger strike for over two hours at the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here. The complex also houses the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office.
They were demanding the cancellation of an FIR recently registered against party workers for staging a protest demonstration at Kachehri Chowk here on March 14 against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over its alleged failure to fulfil its promise of providing Rs 1,000 per month to women. t
Meanwhile, SP Ashok Kumar today met the MLA and assured him that a special investigation team (SIT) would be formed to probe the matter.
Thereafter, the Congress activists ended their hunger strike.
Before leaving, Kala Dhillon said, “We are giving the police seven days to complete its investigation through the SIT, cancel the FIR lodged at the City-2 police station against 20 Congress leaders and 15-20 unidentified party workers or we will stage another protest.”
He further alleged that the police had acted under pressure from leaders of the ruling party while registering the case
