SGPC’s stricter verification rules for solo women devotees in Pakistan jatha

Placing stricter verification norms at the centre, over 240 solo women devotees have cleared newly mandated formalities to join the 1,763-member Sikh jatha yatra to Pakistan for Khalsa Sirjana Diwas (Baisakhi) via the Attari-Wagah joint check post on April 10.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has introduced a rigorous, multi-tier verification system, making it compulsory for every solo woman pilgrim to submit a written undertaking confirming the purely religious purpose of the yatra.

The undertaking must be authenticated by:

  • Head of the family
  • Concerned SGPC member
  • Village Sarpanch
  • Nambardar

Officials say the move is aimed at ensuring accountability, transparency, and adherence to pilgrimage norms
