Amritsar court sends Laljit Bhullar to 5-day police custody in Punjab official’s death case

Former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was produced before a court in Amritsar, which remanded him to five days of police custody in the suicide case of district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa on Tuesday evening.

Bhullar’s supporters raised slogans in his support and attempted to enter the courtroom, but were stopped by the police. The Amritsar police had demanded a seven-day remand of Bhullar, but after hearing the arguments, the court remanded Bhullar to five days of police custody.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination of the deceased was conducted at the Civil Hospital under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate. The procedure lasted for around four and a half hours, and the entire process was videographed as part of the official protocol. After the post-mortem, the last rites were performed at the local cremation ground.

The deceased’s brother, Varinder Singh, stated that they still demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case. Varinder Singh said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured in the Lok Sabha on Monday that a CBI inquiry would be conducted, and urged that the case be handed over to the central agency at the earliest
