The Patiala police have launched an investigation into an alleged sacrilege incident in Samana, where sacred pages of a Sikh holy scripture were found scattered on Bhawanigarh Road. The incident occurred near a dharna site where activists and farmers are protesting under the banner of ‘Dharam Yudh Morcha’, demanding stricter laws against the desecration of holy scriptures.
A protest against sacrilege has been ongoing in Samana for several weeks. DSP Samana Fateh Singh Brar and a police team visited the scene. “We are checking nearby CCTV footage to identify and arrest the culprits,” Brar said.
Protesters claimed there’s no divide in Samana and such incidents aim to disturb communal peace, making it crucial to catch the perpetrators. Last month, supporters of Gurjeet Singh Khalsa joined the protest in Samana, backing his demand for a stricter anti-sacrilege law.
Gurjeet Singh Khalsa, 43, has been protesting atop a 400-ft BSNL tower in Samana for over a year, braving harsh weather conditions. He seeks a stringent law to punish those responsible for sacrilege, regardless of faith
