The parents of slain singer Shubhdeep Singh, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, on Wednesday staged a protest inside the SSP office complex here by sitting on the floor, demanding registration of an FIR in connection with alleged financial fraud involving two companies owned by their late son. The protest coincided with DIG Bathinda range Harjeet Singh’s visit to the office in connection with Operation Prahar 2.0.
Both Balkaur Singh and his wife Charan Kaur sat on the floor for nearly 45 minutes before being called inside to meet the DIG and the SSP.
Speaking to the media, Balkaur Singh said, “We filed a formal complaint with DGP AS Rai against my manager and two others for financial fraud related to our two companies. The complaint was sent to the SSP, and an SP conducted a probe. The file is now lying with the SSP, but the case has not been registered. If the authorities want to shield one person, they should at least book the remaining two. We have provided all related documents to the police. They can even book us if we have lodged a false complaint.”
He further alleged, “Mansa police were acting at the behest of money. We don’t have money to give to the police. Our earning member has already been killed. We are elderly and have to visit police offices after taking medicines. We have now come to meet the DIG to make him aware of our grief. We will not leave until the FIR is registered,” he added.
Sources said the complaint concerns total earnings from various digital platforms since Moosewala’s death, amounting to approximately USD 1.15 crore. “Nearly USD 70 lakh have been paid to Moosewala’s parents in instalments since May 2022, but over USD 37 lakh remains pending, as per their complaint,” said sources.
Charan Kaur said, “If someone kills us, the Mansa police will be responsible.”
After coming out of the meeting, they sat on the floor again but remained silent about the meeting with the DIG and the SSP.
