Lala Lajpat Rai’s village in Moga to get facelift soon: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday said Moga’s Dhudike — the birthplace of freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai — will be developed as a model village with time-bound delivery of sewerage, ponds, playgrounds and other basic infrastructure.

Addressing a gathering at the 71st Lala Lajpat Rai Janam Diwas Khed Mela, Mann claimed that while previous state governments limited themselves to preparing plans, his regime was committed to ensuring visible development on the ground.

He pledged to return on Lala Lajpat Rai’s next birth anniversary with all announced projects completed within a year.

The Chief Minister also joined villagers during the rural sports festival and watched kabaddi and hockey matches organised in the memory of the freedom fighter.

Stressing the need to revive Punjab’s indigenous sports, Mann said traditional games such as kabaddi and bullock-cart racing were an inseparable part of the state’s culture and heritage. “These sports symbolise the strength, unity and spirit of Punjabis and have been passed down through generations,” he said, adding that the government would provide platforms for rural youth to excel in these games.

He announced that the revival of bullock-cart races after a 16-year gap would be a major attraction at the Kila Raipur games scheduled to begin on January 31
