Gargaj said two eyewitnesses — Gurcharan Singh and Harwinder Singh Kohli — who survived the violence had told the probe agencies that Sajjan was leading the mob. “However, their statements were ignored by investigating agencies,” he said.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar was a “gross injustice” to victim families, who waited for justice for over four decades. Punjab BJP spokesperson Sarchand Singh Khiala, also a former president of the Sikh Students Federation, termed the court verdict a “grave injustice”.
Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday said Sajjan Kumar’s acquittal has “reopened deep wounds” inflicted on the Sikh community. Sukhbir also condemned investigating agencies for their “failure” in securing Kumar’s conviction.
