A New Zealand national has shared a heartfelt story showcasing the selfless service by the Sikh community.
The man has been identified as Nate Hamon.
Nate says his parents are local coordinators for a food charity, and several times a week they feed people in need.
He says, “Members of the local Sikh community consistently arrive with trays of freshly prepared food — cooking and paying for it themselves — without seeking recognition, media attention or praise.”
“They simply drop off the food, smile politely and quietly walk away,” he says, calling it “selfless service in its purest form”.
He also addresses critics and those spreading hate, saying: “If your church makes you loud, angry and cruel, while the people you are attacking are peacefully feeding the hungry, then the problem isn’t their faith, it’s your ignorance.”
The video has gone viral days after a nagar kirtan in south Auckland was disrupted by protesters linked to Destiny Church.
The procession, held along Great South Road, included families, prayers and community participation and was conducted peacefully and lawfully.
Around 50 protesters gathered near the route, displaying slogans such as ‘Kiwis First’ and ‘Keep NZ, NZ’ and performing haka in an apparent attempt to disrupt the event.
Police intervened promptly, separating protesters from participants and clearing parts of the road to ensure safety. No serious injuries were reported, and the nagar kirtan continued under police protection.
