Direct Sikhs not to mark Vir Bal Diwas, Balwant Singh Rajoana to Akal Takht

Serving a sentence in a Patiala jail for the assassination of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, Balwant Singh Rajoana has urged Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj to issue an edict asking the Sikhs not to participate in the Vir Bal Diwas.

Stating his concern in the communiqué, he said the voice of Panth was not reaching Parliament and the government.

In the letter, Rajoana also sought help from MPs to rename the Sahibzadas’ martyrdom day, saying the current name undermined the dignity and historical importance of the occasion. Notably, he voiced opposition to seeking help from Congress MPs, reasoning that the party had been working against the interests of Sikhs.

Earlier on December 9, the Akal Takht had also shot off a communiqué to all Sikh MPs to impress upon the Centre to rechristen the day as Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas
