Floodwaters had entered the Kartarpur Sahib complex in the early hours of 29 August, inundating the sacred site. As reported by Sikh Siyasat News on that day, 2-3 feet of water had accumulated inside the Darbar Sahib building. The steps leading to the sanctum were submerged, the outer shrine (mazar) was completely underwater, and even the ground-floor samadh was flooded. The Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which was already on the first floor, was later shifted to a safer location. People stranded inside the complex were also rescued.
As the floodwater began to recede the following day, cleaning operations were launched. After the sanctity of the complex was restored, the Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was duly resumed on 1 September, and the Gurdwara was reopened for the global Sikh sangat.

The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, which since 2019 had enabled visa-free pilgrimage for Sikhs from East Punjab and India, remains closed from the Indian side. The closure followed the Pehalgam attack of April 2025, in which 26 civilians were killed. The continued suspension of the corridor has deprived Sikhs in East Punjab and India of direct access to the shrine, even as Kartarpur Sahib once again becomes functional after the floods.
