MP Kangana’s remarks against Bhindranwale irk Sikh bodies

The Sikh bodies have taken cognisance of the fresh statement of actor-cum-Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut against Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in the backdrop of her upcoming film “Emergency”.

The Akal Takht, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) condemned Kangana’s repeated attempts of character assassination of the Sikh community with distorted content.

During an interaction with the media, Kangana discussed the reasons behind her film’s delay and stated that some people see Bhindranwale as a saint, revolutionary or a leader and raise objections over the film’s script that was supervised by four historians. She said, “I don’t think 99 per cent of the people of Punjab consider Bhindranwale as a saint. He was a terrorist……sitting with an AK-47 in a temple.”

DSGMC head Harmeet Singh Kalka said, “We have approached the BJP high command to refrain her from spreading hate against the Sikhs. She is repeatedly targeting Sikhs, be it her statement on farm protest, incident at Chandigarh airport or wrong narrative about ‘Sant’ Bhindranwale, who headed the Damdami Taksal. If she continues with hate speech, we will take legal course against her.”

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami took “Emergency” as an “anti-Sikh film” and demanded a ban on its release.

Terming Bhindranwale as “Shaheed Sant of 20th century”, the Jathedar had stated that it was not just his character assassination, but Kangana had portrayed the Sikh history in a negative manner.
