Farmers’ protest in Chandigarh, traffic diversions announced, know which routes to avoid

Hundreds of farmers from Punjab have reached the Sector 34 Carnival Ground here to protest against the “failure” of the Punjab government to fulfil their promises.

Under the banner of the BKU (Ugrahan) and the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union (PKMU), the protesters have been allowed to stage a protest in the sector, which is an educational and business hub of the city.The farmers are expected to camp here for four days. On September 5, they are likely to hold a meeting to decide the future course of action.

In view of the rally being organised by the farmers in Chandigarh on Monday, traffic on some road stretches may be diverted/restricted, according to an advisory issued by Chandigarh Traffic Police.
